Hi,
I would appreciate your explanation if you described the diploid knockout in a little bit more detail. I am a first year graduate student taking molecular genetics. The professor rushed through this technique. What is confusing me is how do you study the function of the essential gene if you still have one good copy of it? Why would it be called a knockout if you still have a copy? I understand you need a copy to keep the cell alive. Would the one copy give you an inpaired function, and that's how you infer the function of the essential gene? Thank you!!!

hey,

I was blown away with this microscope.I had never seen a microscope as good as this one.If you don't mind can you write the name of the microscope so that my mother could buy it for me in my birthday. My father can't buy it because he dooes not live with me and my mom. He left us when i was only one year and a half. I heard he now lives in France with my three half sisters and my half brother. I try to contact him but he just ignors me, he doesn't even call me. I have never seen him for over nine years.

Hello.

That is a very interesting set-up you have. I am interested in purchasing something similar for my hobby--mycology. Could you write down the specs and brand names/models so I could purchase something similar? Price isn't an extreme impediment but I wouldn't want to spend over several thousand dollars.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Elisabeth,

Nice blog! Searched for you on a lark, and here you are blogging like a big bloggy thing. I don't know if you'll remember me from BU, but thought it would be worth a shot to contact you from your blog comments.

It's nice to see you doing well, in grad school and enjoying life. My wife Shelby (who interestingly is an absolute knitting nut as well) & I live here in Simi Valley, have two rugrats (girls, 6 & 2), and I work as a scientist in Amgen's Hematology research division.

And IMO the best reason to work with yeast is that it makes the lab smell vaguely of bread. Please do email, I'd enjoy hearing from you.

I always heard the lyric "There's a bad moon on the rise" in the CCR song correctly until someone told me that they thought it was "There's a bathroom on the right." Now I can't stop hearing the "alternate" version...
